War time rationing recipes

We are studying the first and second world wars at school. For homework I had to find a rationing recipe and make it at home

In the war they didn't have some things that we have a lot of today .They had to make do with what they had.

I decided to make this:

Potato Milk Pudding

10 oz shredded potato.
1 oz flour.
1 pint milk or milk and water.
1 oz sugar or 1-2 tablespoonfuls jam.
Nutmeg.

Method-Mix the flour and milk and boil. Shred the potato, but do not let it stand or it will go brown, and cover at once with milk and flour. Place in a pie dish, add the sugar or jam and stir. Sprinkle with grated nutmeg. Bake for 1½ - 2 hours

I decided to make mine with jam and I made it with a pint of milk .People didn't always have a pint of milk spare so they had to make it with half milk and half water

It tasted just like mummy's rice pudding but I had to put some more sweetener in so that I liked it. I suppose people these days are more used to things with more sugary tastes.

Scones!

This weekend I made scones!!!!!!

Ingredients

  • 500 g plain flour
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 125g butter
  • 25g baking powder
  • A handful of sultanas
  • 3 eggs (1 for egg wash)
  • A dash of milk
First you have to rub together the butter and the flour with the baking powder. My hands got very very sticky!

Then you mix in the eggs and a bit of milk in with your hands and squeeze it together around and around until it makes a dough. Then put in some sultanas so they taste lovely!!!

Then I rolled  it out on the side and we have no cutters so I used a cup upside down to make the shapes of the scones

When the scones are on the baking sheet you put a bit of egg on the top to make them look tasty when they are cooked

We put them in the oven for 15 minutes on 180 degrees and when they came out they looked so tasty!!!!

I had two hot ones and put butter and jam in

Mmmmmmmmmm

India

At school this half term we are learning about India. For one of my homeworks I had to draw a poster of one of the landmarks. I chose the Taj Mahal and wrote the words Taj Mahal in Hindi. In my new gold glitter pen. Nice.

Fairy cards

Mummy shared her fairyoplis rub ons and cards with me so I made these. I love rub ons. Well these rub ons, some rub ons are not easy.
